Greatest Rides for Toddlers: Disneyland Paris (18 months old)

Taking a toddler to Disneyland Paris, actually being able to go on rides was one of the things I was most unsure about.

At 18 months old, I didn’t know how much he’d actually be able to go on, whether rides would be too scary, or if we’d spend most of our time just walking around (which also would’ve been a great time!)

But we were genuinely surprised by how many rides he could enjoy. And not just tolerate, but love.

If you’re planning Disneyland Paris with a toddler, here’s every ride we tried in the main Disneyland Park. And to help your planning, I’ve included exactly what to expect in terms of seating, restraints, and any darker or more intense moments.

Part 2: Disney Adventure World (previously: Disneyland Studios Park) coming next!

What to Expect with a Toddler at Disneyland Paris

Before getting into the rides, a few key things to know:

  • Many rides have no minimum height requirement
  • Toddlers can often sit on your lap or have their own seat
  • “Dark rides” aren’t always scary. At younger ages, they’re often just lights and movement
  • The biggest factor isn’t safety. It’s how your toddler reacts to darkness, noise, and movement

For context, our toddler was 18 months old, so:

  • happy to sit on our lap
  • not easily scared by storylines
  • more interested in movement, lights and sounds than characters

This may feel different with a 2.5–3 year old, who may be more aware of “scary” elements and need to sit in a seat beside you.

Best Toddler Rides at Disneyland Paris (Disneyland Park)

🚀 Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast

One of his favourites.

Lights, lasers, a giant Buzz Lightyear, plus a laser gun and joystick to play with.

What to expect:

  • ➡️ Cart ride | lap bar | spins | some loud noises
  • 3 per row, toddler can have their own seat

Perfect for sensory stimulation and interaction.

🎪 Casey Jr. – le Petit Train du Cirque

We did this multiple times.

A small “runaway train” that’s slightly faster than expected, but still completely toddler-friendly.

What to expect:

  • ➡️ Train ride | lap bar | toddler sits on lap
  • 1 adult per row

Great first “thrill” style ride without being overwhelming.

🐘 Dumbo the Flying Elephant

A classic Disney ride.

He loved controlling the lever to move Dumbo up and down and seeing the park from above.

What to expect:

  • ➡️ Spinning ride | seatbelt | toddler on lap
  • Off the ground

Simple, predictable, and always a hit.

🌍 It’s a Small World

The best toddler ride at Disneyland Paris, in my opinion.

We did this as our first ride and our last ride. The colours, music and movement kept him completely captivated.

What to expect:

  • ➡️ Boat ride | no restraints
  • Toddler can sit independently or stand
  • ~3 per row

Perfect for younger toddlers who enjoy sensory experiences.

🪵 Les Voyages de Pinocchio

A slow ride through the story of Pinocchio.

Some darker moments (including the whale), but at this age it didn’t seem to register as “scary”.

What to expect:

  • ➡️ Cart ride | lap bar | dark moments

Good to be aware of, but not a problem for us.

🫖 Mad Hatter’s Tea Cups

A simple, fun ride that most toddlers enjoy.

What to expect:

  • ➡️ Spinning ride | no restraints | bench seating

You control the spin, so you can keep it gentle.

🛸 Orbitron

Very similar to Dumbo, but faster and slightly more exciting.

He loved the interactive controls.

What to expect:

  • ➡️ Spinning ride | seatbelt
  • Toddler sits in front of you
  • Off the ground

One of our favourites.

🧚 Peter Pan’s Flight

One of the most popular rides. Therefore, queues can be long.

A beautiful ride, but with some darker scenes.

What to expect:

  • ➡️ Suspended cart | lap bar | toddler on lap
  • Dark moments | off the ground

Worth doing if you can time the queue.

🏴‍☠️ Pirates of the Caribbean

I expected this to be too intense… but he loved it.

Lots of movement, sounds, and constantly changing scenes.

What to expect:

  • ➡️ Boat ride | lap bar
  • Dark | 2 small drops

One of the more “surprising” toddler wins.

👻 Phantom Manor

Often labeled as scary but at 18 months, it didn’t register that way.

To him, it was just lights, movement and a slow ride.

What to expect:

  • ➡️ Seated pod | lap bar | spins
  • Dark

There is a short dark pre-room before boarding to be aware of.

🚤 Thunder Mesa Riverboat Landing

A slower, calmer ride and a good reset.

Great for when you need a break from queues and stimulation.

What to expect:

  • ➡️ Large boat | no restraints
  • Free seating or walking around deck

Toddler-Friendly Rides We Missed

These are also suitable for toddlers but we didn’t get to try them:

🚂 Disneyland Railroad

  • ➡️ Train ride | no restraints | bench seating
  • A full loop of the park, ideal for resting

🍎 Blanche-Neige et les Sept Nains (Snow White)

  • ➡️ Cart ride | lap bar | dark moments
  • Similar to Pinocchio / Peter Pan

🎠 Le Carrousel de Lancelot

  • ➡️ Carousel | no restraints | individual seats

📖 Le Pays des Contes de Fées

  • ➡️ Boat ride | no restraints | open seating
  • A gentle outdoor storybook ride

Final Thoughts: Is Disneyland Paris Worth It with a Toddler?

Yes, and way more than we expected.

The biggest surprise was how many rides were suitable, and how much he actually enjoyed them.

Disneyland Paris with a toddler isn’t about doing everything.

It’s about choosing the right rides, managing expectations, and embracing a slower pace.

At 18 months:

  • movement > storyline
  • lights and sound > characters
  • simple rides = best rides

If you’re planning a trip, hopefully this gives you a clear idea of what to expect. And I hope it helps you feel more confident taking a toddler to Disneyland Paris.
