China is the 4th largest country in the world, so deciding where to go if you’re planning a visit can be challenging. In 2010 I visited Beijing, Yangshuo, Chengdu and Guangzhou. So this time I decided to explore South East China.
I found a great flight on Skyscanner into Hong Kong and out of Shanghai, two places I definitely wanted to see. The bit in between was decided by looking at how I would travel from A to Z (or H to S) and where I could stop on the way.
The most efficient method was train, so I researched the various stations between Shenzhen (on the mainland side of the Hong Kong border) and Shanghai. I settled on Wuyishan and Hangzhou.
I booked the trains in advance (see blog) which made things less flexible, but it was worth it for guaranteed seats.
Everything I did could be shortened, extended or done in reverse, so hopefully this overview inspires you to plan your own trip to South East China soon.
