VENICE HOSTEL: Venice’s Newest Coolest Hostel

After finding cheap flights to Venice for a weekend away, my focus quickly turned to finding an affordable Venice hostel for my accommodation.

I had been told by many people that Venice was an expensive place to stay so I was a little worried, but I quickly came across a to-good-to-be-true Venice hostel right at Mestre station.

ANDA VENICE HOSTEL

Via Ortigara, 10, 30171 Venice Mestre, Italy

I booked it.. then realised that despite the high average rating, it only had about 10 reviews. Rookie error!

On further investigation, I could see that it had no reviews because it had just opened this month! (May 2018).

On arrival, I was shocked at how cool the space was and I want to share it with you to encourage anyone visiting Venice to check it out, and to bust any myths that hostels have any lower standards than hotels.

Location

The Anda Venice Hostel is less than 5 minutes from Mestre Station, making it a perfect resting point for visiting Venice and taking day trips in the region.

Getting There and Atound

The airport bus from Treviso stops at Mestre Station, making it a perfect choice for late night arrivals.

The trip across to Venice island takes 10-15 minutes max on the number 2 shuttle bus or catching the train from inside the station.

The Rooms

I stayed in a 6 bed female dorm. It was pristine clean (everything is new!) There is a shower and toilet within the room so no need to walk down a corridor in a towel!

The Design

This is where it gets interesting.

The Anda Venice Hostel has the feel of a warehouse, with exposed beams and pipes running across the ceiling.

There is attention to detail everywhere, down to the Anda logo embossed on the bathroom shelves.

The mirrors have backwards transfers that cast shadows on the wall behind to spell messages!

The massive windows and entirely glass ground floor mean it feels far more spacious than your average Venice hostel (or hostel anywhere for that fact!)

View from my room;

For Digital Nomads

There is an amazing work space, including 4 large iMac computers free for use.

WiFi runs freely and reliably throughout the building and there are charging pods in each bunk as well as plenty of sockets throughout the building.

Social Spaces

There are seating nooks, hanging chairs and outdoor loungers too. So there is something and space for everyone.

There is also a book case that I can only imagine will fill and evolve with time as international travellers pass through.

Facilities

As with most hostels there is a kitchen area. However if you’re feeling tired, there’s also a restaurant open till 10pm every night and a bar open till 11pm too.

There are multiple vending machines including selling coffee for 1eur.

The baggage storage in reception is another quirky design, in the form of large crates.

Price

In total I paid £41 for 3 nights in the Anda Venice Hostel. Insanely good value considering there was nothing on the island for less than £100.

There isn’t much by way of included extras though. You get your linens but be sure to bring a towel unless you want to pay extra. Breakfast is an extra 7eur to add it on and can be paid on arrival.

Overall the Anda Hostel is incredible value and wholly unique, in an expensive city packed full of hotels.
