Aquaworld Budapest: The Best Budapest Waterpark.

Aquaworld Budapest is one of the biggest indoor water theme parks in Europe.

While it probably won’t make any “Top 10 things to do in Budapest” lists, a day at Aquaworld Budapest is a great for a change of pace for a longer trip or a rainy day.

Who Is Aquaworld Budapest For?

At the risk of sounding like a corny tv advert, there is genuinely something for everyone at Aquaworld.

It’s well catered to kids, with various shallow pools, short slides and even a “splash zone” outdoor playpark that looks like it would be epic in the summer.

And for adults who are big kids at heart, its perfect too.

Aquaworld Budapest is adrenaline and tranquillity under one roof.

We went on a Saturday in April, and while it was low season, it was less crowded that I expected. That being said, the majority of water slides had no more than a 5-10 minute wait.

Now I’ve hopefully sold you on a visit, here’s all you need to know about spending a day at Aquaworld, Budapest.

Aquaworld Prices and Opening Times

Aquaworld Tickets:

Accurate as of Nov 19, but the official Aquaworld Budapest website has the most up to date times & prices.

Aquaworld Opening Times:

The opening hours are super long!
Every day from 6 am to 10 pm. The pool area and Sauna World closes at 9:30 pm.

We spent 7 hours at Aquaworld, splitting our time between the slides, pools, saunas and sun loungers (plus a break for lunch).

It’s open all year round, but it’s probably best enjoyed in low season or mid-week.

Getting From Budapest to Aquaworld

To get to Aquaworld from Budapest city, you can easily catch public transport.

  • The Bus 230 or 30 runs from Keleti Pályaudvar.
  • The total journey time will take about 45-60 minutes

Aquaworld apparently also run a free shuttle from Hero’s Square, however we didn’t use it.

It’s also only about 25 minutes by taxi.

Spending A Day At Aquaworld

There are 7 larger flumes, an outdoor heated pool open all year round and Sauna World, with at least 10 different saunas, plunge pools and steam rooms.

We split our day between 3 main areas:

FLUMES

Well of course. This is why we came! There are 7 flumes that are big and fast enough for adults to genuinely enjoy.

  • 2 can be used with rubber rings and are extra fun as a double.
  • 3 are used with a foam ‘carpet’ to lie back on.
  • 2 are body only.

For kids, there are some shorter slides, including one with an inflatable ring.

While there is perhaps not as wide a variety as some outdoor European water parks, there are enough options to spend a day at Aquaworld without getting bored or feeling like things are getting repetitive.

THERMAL SPA & POOLS

If you’re visiting Aquaworld with kids, then there are plenty of different pools and attractions in addition to the slides.

Outside, there’s a Splash Zone, which looks like it would be very popular in Budapest summers. Indoors, there’s a wave pool with some very cool ‘walk on water’ zorb balls and some shallower paddling pools.

There’s also a 3m diving tower, a larger indoor swimming area, a whirlpool and a number of jacuzzis.

Since we were spending a day at Aquaworld without children, we stuck to the thermal pool outside.

It was a refreshing break from the chaos of the slides and a much calmer atmosphere. Of course, it was April and not warm enough to sunbathe or hang about outside the water, so it’s possible things are louder and busier in warmer months.

SAUNA WORLD

Sauna World is a separate area within Aquaworld, that you can access either as part of your full ticket, or with a standalone Sauna World ticket.

I was skeptical of how good this area would be. Afterall, Budapest is world renowned for its saunas and thermal baths. So I expected this one to be a little gimmicky.

Let me tell you, Sauna World surpassed my expectations and then some!

With access included in a day pass ticket, it makes the overall Aquaworld ticket price totally worth it.

Sauna World offers 5 saunas, 2 steam rooms, an infrared cabin, salt & ice chambers, a tepidarium for your feet and a plunge pool. (The plunge pool is COLD, but such an invigorating feeling if you can bring yourself to jump in!)

According to the website, the full Sauna World options are:
  • Finnish Sauna; 75-90 °C
  • Russian Sauna: 75-90 °C
  • 2 Steam Cabins: 45-55 °C
  • Bio Sauna: 50-60 °C
  • Aroma Sauna: 50-60 °C
  • Infra Cabin: 50-60 °C
  • Crystal Sauna: 80-85 °C
  • Tepidarium: 37-39 °C
  • 2 Ice Chambers: 5-10 °C
  • Salt Chamber 25 °C
  • Diving Pool 16-18 °C
  • Kneipp Pool 16-18 °C

We spent a long time in Sauna World sweating out all the great food Budapest has to offer and relaxing after a hard morning of fluming. (That’s a word right?)

If you want to truly treat yourself, they even offer massages.

Everything Else You Need To Know About Aquaworld.

Extras On Offer:

Aside from the slides, pools and saunas, your day at Aquaworld can also include a visit to these following extras:

  • Café: We ate at the café, and for a family attraction and captive audience, the prices and options weren’t bad.
  • Sunloungers inside and out. While the views werent picturesque, it was a great spot to have a snack or digest lunch.
  • Surf simulator (seasonal)
  • Outdoor mini golf (seasonal)
  • Children’s play park
  • Hotel resort for extended stays.

Packing List

This one may seem obvious, but there are a few things we wish we’d brought but didn’t.

  • 2 Towels (One regular and a small one for Sauna World to avoid the 350 HUF for a sauna sheet)
  • Secure bathing suit (unless you want to leave half of it at the top of Kamikaze)
  • Flip Flops (for walking around Sauna World and the café)
  • Food (We weren’t prepared and bought lunch at the café, but we saw a lot of families with picnic bags and it would certainly be a great way to cut costs.)

And there you have it. How to spend a day at Aquaworld, Budapest!

It may not be the most obvious attraction this wonderful city has to offer. but it certainly shouldn’t be overlooked as a way to do something different on a rainy day in Budapest and have a great day out.
