Finding cheap flights is easy, finding cheap hotels is a little harder.
We’ve all seen a great deal on a budget flight somewhere, then after adding the accommodation costs, suddenly a £50 flight to becomes a £500 holiday. Hotels are often the most expensive part of a trip and so to ensure you can make the most of the next budget flight you see, I’m sharing my tips on how to find cheap hotels or affordable alternative accommodation.
1. Avoid European Hotels.
Europe isn’t exactly a cheap hotel mecca. Europe has some of the highest hotel rates in the world. When I travel in Europe I almost exclusively stay in Airbnbs or Hostels to keep costs down. Hostels in Europe are safe and affordable.
2. Book Airbnbs.
As mentioned above, Airbnb is an excellent way of accessing luxury properties at the fraction of the cost of 4 & 5 star hotels. If you’re on an even tighter budget, search for a room in a home rather than renting out a private place.

3. Stay out of the centre.
It may mean a short journey to the main attractions but staying further away from the city centre can get you a lot more hotel for your budget. Be sure you research ahead of time to ensure the area is still safe for tourists.
4. Use Loyalty Points.
Using loyalty schemes such as Booking.com Genius Discount and Hotels.com Rewards Nights can help lower the cost of pricier destinations or get you more for your money in an affordable luxury travel destination.
5. Travel in Low Season.
Hotel rates will always fluctuate throughout the year to account for busy and quiet periods. Travelling in the low season makes travel possible in places it usually wouldn’t be in the peak months.
Added perk of low season- no crowds!
And that’s it!
5 ways you can find cheap hotels or make accommodation affordable. Now you can really take advantage of the next cheap flight you find!
