This is a list of the best Lesbian Halloween Costume Ideas, that are all easy to make…
Need an easy lesbian Halloween costume idea? Well look no further!
Spooky season is upon us, and that means so is the annual search for Halloween costume ideas or fun and unique costume ideas. I absolutely love dressing up & costume parties. I loved them as a kid, as a student in University & yes, still as an adult (if that’s what we’re calling this stage of life!)
Dressing up and costumes are such a fun way to explore different sides of your personality or identity. It’s a no-judgement time of year where you get to be anyone you want, or wear (almost) anything you want too!
Exploring Your Identity Through Costume
As I’ve grown and evolved in my identity and personality, so too have the costumes that I’ve chosen. From the overly feminine versions of classic Halloween characters in university, to the slightly predictable Orange is the New Black costume as I grew confident in my queer identity. Halloween and fancy-dress parties are such a great chance to express a different side of yourself, or wear something you may not feel totally confident wearing in a day to day setting. (Cue 19 year old me dressing us as Ke$ha as an excuse to wear combat boots to a club instead of the usual dress & heels!)
To preface a blog of lesbian costume ideas, I want to be super clear, there is no one way to look queer, lesbian, gay or however you identify. But I wanted to put together a list of easy to make Halloween costume ideas that include either LGBTQ+ icons. Or, costumes that suit folks looking for something a little different to the usual low-cut tight fitted “sexy” options we often see when you search for Halloween costume ideas.
The Key Elements To A Perfect Lesbian Halloween Costume
For me, there are a few key elements that need to be included in the perfect Halloween costume. And so of course, they have all been taken into consideration when compiling this list of epic Lesbian Halloween Costume Ideas.
Comfortable To Wear
Above all else, I prioritise being comfortable. ESPECIALLY when it comes to lesbian Halloween costumes. Life is way to short to wear something that doesn’t make you feel good, or worse, actively hurts. For me, that means no stupidly high stilettos in sight! (I wore enough of those from 2010-2015 to last me a lifetime.) The beauty of many lesbian costume ideas is that they involve flat shoes and loose clothing. That’s not to say they all do, but there’s plenty of options that will ensure you’re not changing out of your outfit half way through the party because you can’t bear it any longer.
Easy To Make
Whether you’re buying off the shelf or making it yourself, nobody has time to spend 50 hours making a super complex queer costume for Halloween. I personally love creating DIY costumes, from either pieces already in my wardrobe or 2nd hand stores. It also makes your costume more eco-friendly too vs a 1-time use. Whether you’re doing a DIY costume or buying some pieces online, “easy to put together” is a must.
Easy To Recognise
When you rock up to a fancy-dress event in your epic queer costume, you want people (or at least some people) to know who you are. It gets a little tiring having to explain to every person individually what you’re dressed as. Sure, everyone at the event may not know every lesbian icon (blame hetero-normativity!) but the more identifiable the better.
Now For The Best Lesbian Halloween Costume Ideas You Need To Recreate
So that brings us to this blog and a list of queer fancy dress ideas.
Now that I’m out & proud, I enjoy representing our LGBTQ+ community through the characters I choose to dress as. Not to mention, queer fashion & style is 9/10 better too. Not all of these lesbian Halloween costume ideas are of explicitly LGBTQ+ people or characters. But there are some queer coded characters & icons that would just make too great a costume to ignore. Of course, I’ve prioritised comfort, recognisability & ease in each.
So without further ado, here are 30 Lesbian Costume Ideas and Lesbian Couple Costumes to give you some inspiration for this Halloween.

Lesbian Couple Halloween Costume Ideas
(Of course, most of these lesbian costume ideas also work individually if you’re not dressing up with someone else)
Alex & Piper – Orange is the New Black
Ok, sorry to start our SO predictably. But would it be a list of iconic lesbian couple Halloween costume ideas without mentioning the ultimate lesbian TV couple of Vausman. It’s also top of my list because it’s a costume I actually made myself, super easily from my wardrobe and a pair of beige trousers from a charity shop. Or use the link below for a freshly-incarcerated orange prison uniform look.
Janice & Damien – Mean Girls
Pair up as this iconic queer duo from the cult classic Mean Girls. Whether you grab an over-sized hoodie from your wardrobe & pair it with sunglasses for a very easy gay Halloween costume. Or you channel your big fat lesbian crush on Regina George by dressing as Janice, you could easily do this as a Queer couple Halloween costume or as a solo idea.
Ellen & Portia
Hollywood’s lesbian royalty, Ellen and Portia are a great glam lesbian couple costume idea. Despite the recent controversy around Ellen, there is no denying what she’s done for LGBTQ representation in TV over the decades that she has had her show. Ellen is always dressed in a distinct suit, while Portia tends to be in more glamorous / high fashion designs.
Callie & Arizona – Grey’s Anatomy
Confession time, I’ve never actually properly watched Grey’s Anatomy. It’s shocking I know! But I’m not such a terrible lesbian, that I don’t know Of the queer awakening that Callie & Arizona brought to so many. A super easy lesbian couple Halloween costume idea, just grab two sets of scrubs from a thrift store, or online and mock up some name badges so that people know who you are. Name a more comfortable Halloween costume than that!
Santana & Brittany – High School Musical
Santana and Brittany were the lesbian couple of our teenage years. (For millennial’s at least). A great lesbian couple costume idea, especially if you’re looking to express your feminine side and you’re okay with showing a little skin.
Perhaps a little harder to DIY, but easy enough to order online and pair with a set of pom-poms. Make your queer Halloween costume even more extra and choreograph your own cheer to break out into at the party.
Emma & Adèle — Blue is the Warmest Color
If you know you know. Emma might be a little harder to recognise as a costume by herself, but as a couple, it’s unmistakable. If you’re looking for an excuse to wear a wig, or even better add some temporary colour to your hair, consider dressing as Emma and Adele this Halloween.
Ashlyn Harris & Ali Krieger (and Sloane)
What’s an easier and more comfortable Halloween costume than a football (soccer) kit? Dress as this power couple by picking up (or making) the US women’s soccer team outfits. Of course, they’re not the only lesbian couple on the team, so you could consider which name you’d like to put on your back. Make this lesbian Halloween costume idea even more recognisable by carrying along a fake baby Sloane.
Grace & Frankie
Okay, while perhaps not a queer couple, it’s undeniable that Grace and Frankie are icons. Decide who will be the prim and proper Grace with pearls and a tailored suit, and who will be the fun and flamboyant Frankie. Add some grey to your backcombed hair and some hand crafted chunk earrings for extra effect.
Anne Lister & Ann Walker – Gentleman Jack
Throw it right back with this queer couple costume idea and pay tribute to the legendary Annes. This costume will take a little more effort to put together, but would be such a fun one to go thrift shopping to purchase. Decide who will wear the elegant mid century ballgown, and who gets to wear Anne Lister’s iconic top hat & waistcoat.
Cosima and Delphine – Orphan Black
Of all the characters in Orphan Black, Cosima was by far my favourite. And for obvious reasons. An easy costume to put together, with a long white lab coat and some statement black rimmed glasses. Depending on your hair, try to recreate her dreadlocks, or pick up a wig to really finish the look.
Jessie and James – Pokémon
Statement T-shirts, thigh high boots, and colourful hair. Need I say more? Be the villain, be the bad guy, and if you don’t make a TikTok using that audio whilst wearing these costumes, I’m disappointed in you. More points if you spray your own hair pink or purple instead of using a wig.
Lesbian Halloween Costume Ideas
While many of the above lesbian couple Halloween costume ideas could be used individually, here are some more for inspiration if you’re dressing up solo.
Ashley Spinelli from Recess
An easy costume that almost any lesbian could recreate from their existing wardrobe. Put your hair into two bunches, add an orange beanie, throw on a leather jacket and you’re done! Ashley Spinelli was queer, and I won’t hear another word on it.
Jillian Holtzmann from ‘Ghostbusters’
Or any of the Ghostbusters really! But any excuse to be remotely associated with Kate McKinnon and I’m in! A boiler suit, some reflective strips, and a home-made backpack with ghostbusting technology. A comfortable and super fun lesbian Halloween costume idea.
Jojo Siwa
Newly out the closet, and doing phenomenal things for young LGBTQ people, Jojo is in a league of her own when it comes to personal branding. Add an oversized bow to a high ponytail, and dress in as much glitter as you can. Get creative with some face paint and face glitter to, by recreating one of her many flamboyant looks.
Velma from Scooby-Doo
Scooby-Doo producers confirmed her as a lesbian, as if we needed confirmation. A polo neck, orange wig and some glasses. Done! If you are looking for a great group Halloween costume idea, you could each dress up as a different member of the mystery gang. But Velma’s look is iconic enough to stand alone too.
Ursula
She was queer there is no doubt about it. Be one of Disney’s greatest villains and pay tribute to Ursula with this Halloween costume idea. A black dress and a grey quiff in your hair will do it. But go all out and add some tentacles and purple body-paint for extra dramatic effect.
Elsa
Elsa is the lesbian princess that we all need. Although not officially confirmed, Elsa is a queer icon whatever they say at Disney. The most notable part of Elsa’s costume is her hair, alongside that pair a blue dress (or go all out and buy the official Disney princess gown!)
Merida
A strong independent woman who is most definitely LGBTQ+. Doubling up on Disney princesses, consider a Merida costume for Halloween this year. Her fiery red hair and toy bow and arrow are easy to pick up and pair with a green dress. Or go all out and get the full medieval dress if you want to live out the full fantasy.
Megan Bloomfield – But I’m a Cheerleader
Everything Natasha Lyonne touches turns to gold, and Megan Bloomfield is no exception. Get out the rollers for this costume and dress as the lesbian queen of the 90’s with pearls, perm and a questionable pink cardigan. If you’re looking for a lesbian couples Halloween costume, have someone else dress as Graham.
