This Is What A Lesbian Looks Like

⁣THIS IS WHAT LESBIAN LOOKS LIKE 🌈⠀

lesbian

I stressed for a while looking for a picture with a Pride flag or rainbow to post for #LesbianDayOfVisibility but surprise surprise, I don’t ACTUALLY carry one with me at all times. ⠀
⠀⠀
Despite the stereotypes, often grounded in truth (yes my wardrobe is 50% flannel and ripped jeans). You can’t define what a lesbian looks like.

Lesbian doesn’t have a “look”. And my identity is not a dirty word or for your pleasure. ⠀

Lesbians exist in every part of society. We are neighbours, we are travellers, we are employees, we are sisters, we are mothers, we are friends we are pilots, we are artists, we are scientists.. We are human and we are everywhere.⠀

I shouldn’t need to wave a flag or kiss my girlfriend for my identity to be visible.⠀

And visibility MATTERS. Representation is so important. ⠀

When you see yourself in someone else, it gives you permission to be in that space or do that thing.⠀

By being visible and open I hope that I encourage others to feel comfortable to voice their identity too.⠀
⠀⠀
I took a while to claim the word “lesbian” because of the connotations and societies misconceptions of who that is. And sometimes I still struggle. ⠀
⠀⠀
But today is Lesbian Visibility Day so here I am 🙋‍♀️⠀

I see you, butch lesbians and femme lesbians, lesbian trans sisters, non binary lesbians, gender non-conforming lesbians.. I SEE YOU. You are visible.⠀⠀

THIS IS WHAT LESBIAN LOOKS LIKE.
