Visible Lesbians On Instagram You Need To Follow

The Importance Of Visible Lesbians

Introducing some epic women who are being visible lesbians that you NEED to follow.

I haven’t always been a visible lesbian. For anyone who has only met me recently, or follows me online, that may come as a surprise. However this is only my 3rd year of posting for the Lesbian Day of Visibility!⁣

Visibility is SO important. I talk about it all the time. And it’s why I chose to be vocal and visible on social media. ⁣

We cannot be what we cannot see. ⁣

Growing up, lesbian visibility didn’t exist for me. There weren’t movies with lesbian super heroes, or children’s books with same sex families or lesbian popstars. Or to be honest, any visible lesbians to let kids and teenagers (or adults!) know that it’s ok to love who you love. ⁣

When I first realised I may not be straight, the internet is where I found the visible lesbians that I desperately needed to see. ⁣

People may roll their eyes at ‘Youtubers’ or ‘Vloggers’. However that’s where I could find people that I identified with. Where I learned that how I felt was ok, and that I wasn’t alone. ⁣

We NEED visibility to feel valid. ⁣

Thank you sincerely to the visible lesbians that were the validity that I needed at that time: (@roseellendix , @roxetera , @cammiescott , @nowthisisliving , @amberscloset )⁣

Since coming out, I have built myself an online community of fellow LGBT folks. So now when I scroll on social media, I have that representation that I always needed, particularly as an LGBT traveller.

And I hope that now, with my Instagram and Blog I can be that person for someone else too. If you’re not ready to come out yet, that’s ok too, be visible when you are ready. And know that, no matter what, ⁣you are valid. ⁣

Lesbian Visibility Week

The end of April was lesbian visibility week. This is the first year Lesbian Day of Visibility was a a whole week of celebrating visible lesbians, led by Diva Magazine.

They publushed a Top 100 Lesbian List, which celebrates the most visible lesbians in the public eye who are all doing wonderful things.

To mark the week, I shared some visible lesbians on Instagram that I love following. And to be sure the list lives on all year round, I also wanted to publish it in blog format.
